Mahadev Temple in Tambdi Surla is the oldest Temples in Goa, located at a place called Tambi Surla. The temple itself is built in Jain style in the twelfth century. The temple is built in a small clearing, hidden in the dense jungle the place was quite inaccessible and away from the main settlements of the time. This was possibly done to protect it from the Portuguese. The size of the temple is quite small as compared to the size of the average Goan temple. The top portion of the temple is still left uncompleted as seen in the above 360 photograph.The temple is built from the finest weather-resistant grey-black basalt. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Inside the temple is a linga, a symbol of Lord Shiva mounted on a pedestal and local legend has it that a huge King Cobra is in permanent residence in the dimly lit interior.
